Ryan the Realtor on Conway & Bartlett Buyer Vision (Movie Inside)

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Quiet anonymity is a life path some choose and fully embrace. I suppose that suit has never fit me just right and is perhaps why real estate and teaching have been my first career instincts. You know, for brief moments in my work I have a captive audience. And it’s not feeding the ego but rather the interaction that is rewarding. Figuring out what motivates a student, a buyer, a seller is all very fascinating in a world of social animals and a  smile at the end of a day keeps me on the return when this market is full of lumps, bruises, and near misses.

Do I dare say this is my art? Do I dare suggest business can be something more than the passing of paper and documents? Ryan me dear fellow I think you’ve got something here!

Because this business is gently informing a Manahatten client we lost the purchase to someone with more cash — his retirment home would have to wait.  Or sharing deep emapthy with a client who lost his wife to cancer and never sat at the table when we closed. Or connecting a client with dependable contractors after a purchase meant necessary home improvements. This is all a part of what I do and service Ryan Mahan provides. I provide service; please do not confuse what I do with sales.

A house is a house is a house but the real match making is fitting personalities with a house. A house has no spirit without people, laughter, or the natural song and pace of a human day. Being able to see a family or a couple mesh with a house is important — no worries, I don’t practice tarot cards. I recently visited this house for a client (not my listing) and felt a cabin-like quality with the full space and comfort a modern house provides, a unique combination. The home is located between Attitash and Cranmore skiing. Email Ryan@JtRealty.com with any questions and remember, we are more than the motions we go through.

Cheers

Return to NH Rivers and Lakes — 49 Little Shore Drive

Why NH Waterfront Property?

Ryan the Realtor readily admits I could not adapt myself to city life: the incessant motion, the artificial lights and sounds, yet mostly the lack of  space and true quiet would turn me tighter than your industrial screw soon to explode and sprint madly through the streets pulling my hair and screaming savagely. Perhaps this a touch of dramatic but mostly true. I consider myself closer to the cave than my other primate cousins.

Did you float down a mild-winter-river this December? Did you step into your wooded lawn, lay down and peer at familiar constellations and still wonder like a curious kid? Did you start a cooking fire from last year’s brush and prepare a meal in tin-foil because you didn’t feel like going indoors for supper and no one on the bloody planet could stop you? I did.

Moments like these are simply soul maintenance — a moment when a man (or woman) can relax and breathe without considering the day’s tedious responsibilities or tomorrow’s tasks growing like a dessert storm.

Purchasing a second home is not a necessity, but finding internal peace and external solitude is. We can tend to our lives and become better people as a result. 49 Little Shore Drive on the shores of Pea Porridge Pond may just be the space for you.

Fall in the Mount Washington Valley

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Conway Lake Foliage

Jaxson’s first day of preschool

The mornings are getting a little crisper up here in the mountains, and my husband took the air conditioners out of the windows this weekend. Traffic is getting easier to tolerate, advertisements for county fairs are flooding the radio, and I think I caught a little bit of red and orange peeking out of some green leaves looking out over the vista yesterday afternoon. Fall is upon us, and it isn’t looking like it is going to be a slow transition between seasons.

While the fall is arguably the most beautiful season, and certainly a personal favorite of mine, rather than sit back and enjoy the apple cider I always find myself getting excited for the holidays. My son, Jaxson, started preschool this week, and will be enjoying his first winter break come December. It is so great to live in this area, where no driving is necessary to enjoy the winter favorites that tourists come from miles to take advantage of. And it is especially nice not to have to pay for a vacation rental! I have met several tourists over the years, and am always amazed at the people that continue to visit the valley year after year. I can’t even tell you how many people I have heard say “I’ve been coming here in the winter since I was a kid!” And yet these people continue to stay in hotels, or other rentals in the area, at inflated “in season” costs. When you are referring to a place with 4 equally fun and beautiful seasons, it isn’t often you will run into “off season” prices. The solution? A vacation home! I know what you are thinking, that you can’t afford a second mortgage, but you would be surprised at some of the options that are available to you. It isn’t every day that you can go on vacation, especially if you have children and a full time job. Don’t waste time and energy worrying about the quality of your rental, check in, check out, and crossing your fingers that the pictures you saw online weren’t taken five years and thirty keg parties ago.

Let us help to take the stress out of your vacation, and find you your home away from home, no matter what your price range is.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie…Remix from Ryan the Realtor

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Those of you fortunate to know this beloved bed time story by Laura Joffe Numeroff will surely understand my real estate spin on this children’s book. This tale is told in defense of men everywhere who collect stuff. A man in the north-country needs stuff.

If you give a boy-man a house…
…then there will need to be trees.

If the tall, tall trees fall as they do…
…he will surely need a chainsaw.

And to run that chainsaw he will need a file…
…and one can mixed gas, some spark plugs, a helmet and for protection some chaps.

If when he’s finished the long sun makes him hot…
… he will need a canoe and a fishing pole for the fish to be caught.

If he fishes hard and that’s the only way to fish…
… he will need a cooler, some supper, and afterwards he’ll rest for a bit.

If he wakes from a nap his boots on the floor…
…he will need to watch the Red Sox versus Yankees and follow the score.

And if after all this the boy-man has house…
…he will also need a garage!

For those men with garage or barn envy, visit these Mt. Washington Valley homes with ample storage for toys and then call Ryan the Realtor today direct (207) 462-3874 or by email Ryan@JtRealty.com

Summer in the White Mountain National Forest

MILE 54.5

This mile-marker on 302 in Hart’s Location has become more meaningful to my family than the Department of Transportation may have conceived. Here the upper stretches of the Saco River runs cool between large boulders and long slabs of granite perfect for plunging into summer currents and then drying in the sun like a gecko or desert lizard.

But my family most resembles a centipede as we aim our cannon-ball-butts in the perfect pockets of deep water and then drift lazy in our life vests. After all, Maya at four years of age is entitled to some assistance, and once comfortable, a PFD allows Mom and Dad some time to relax.

But the fun doesn’t stop there: boogie boards, butt-sliding on wet granite runways, and kayaks to paddle in the deep pools make this afternoon the complete adventure. A cooler with lunch sustain the young ones in the afternoon heat.

Proper Whitewater Feet Placement!Pools and current!Almost a tennager!

I encourage friends of Ryan the Realtor to make this trip. Look for a well worn path 350 yards after the White Mountain National Forest sign but there are a few ground rules:

1. Leave the place better than when you arrived.

2. Don’t wear a wet suit in July as a visitor did yesterday. The offense was so
evident I could not even comment.

In regards to Hart’s location, come and see this natural playground today.

24 Hours of Great Glen Bike Race.

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

The Mount Washington Valley is known for all manner of outdoor activities: skiing, hiking, camping, kayaking, bird watching, hunting, fishing, etc. But this weekend, the Valley is famous for mountain biking and Festival 24. A Great Glenn mountain bike festival, Festival 24 takes the unusual juxtaposition of grueling physical endurance and child’s play and turns it into a popular weekend family festival.

The Mount Washington Valley’s summer Tour De Force, 24 Hours of Great Glen is punishing 24-hour mountain bike endurance race on a course that runs from Great Glen Base Lodge through the mountains between Jackson and Gorham New Hampshire. But unlike the Tour De France, 24 Hours of Great Glen features a tire-changing contest, a cheese doodle toss, a marshmallow stuffing contest, face painting, and a kids movie night.

Swimming Holes in the White Mountains

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

View from Lower Kimball Lake

Lovely Year-Round cottage on the shore of Lower Kimball Lake in Chatham, NH

July 15, 2009

By Suzie Laskin

In my last blog, I wrote about a few of my favorite hikes in the White Mountains. This time, I’m going to let you in on a couple of my favorite secret and not-so-secret swimming holes in the eastern White Mountains and western Maine.

Weston’s Beach is a well-known beach on the Saco River in Fryeburg, ME. There is a beautiful large, sandy beach where you can sit and relax in your beach chair for the day. There is a parking lot so it can get a little crowded, but nevertheless, it’s a wonderful place to swim and relax. From the Fryeburg Post Office, take 113N. You will cross the bridge over the Saco River and see the parking area for the beach on your right.

Rattlesnake Pool If you are looking for a spot that is very much off the beaten track, head up route 113 North from Fryeburg to Evans Notch. The drive alone will take you through beautiful farmlands and countryside. As you drive north, you’ll pass through Stow, ME, North Chatham, NH and then back into Stow, ME again. Evans Notch is spectacular, one of the most scenic and little-known places in the area.  The Blueberry Mountain Trail, as its name would suggest, is loaded with blueberries and has great views of the Baldface Ridge and the hills around the Cold River valley. Take the Stone House Trail, and in about a mile, you’ll come to a gorge with a deep pool in Rattlesnake Brook.  Rattlesnake Pool is like a quite, peaceful swimming pool–it  is just breathtaking! The water cascades over moss covered rocks into a deep pool. What a great spot for a dip on a hot, summer day.

Emerald Pool This hike is about as easy as they come. It’s a lovely walk through the forest, a great hike for the whole family. The kids will really like it because they can go swimming. Emerald Pool is a gorgeous swimming hole in the Charles Brook. On a hot summer day it can be quite busy, but certainly not as busy as the more well-known spots along the Kancamagus Highway. There is a “jump rock” where the more brave-at-heart can jump off a rock from about 10 feet above the water into the beautiful, deep, very cold, emerald pool below. On a hot day, there’s nothing like the exhilaration of jumping into Emerald Pool!  The trailhead location is about 14 miles North of Fryeburg Maine on Route 113.   The parking lot is located on the East (right) side of the road and the trailhead is about 20 yards further North on the West (left) side of the road.It takes about 15 minutes each direction and there is a very minimal elevation gain. The trail is about 3/4 mile each direction.

Langdon Brook Out in Center Chatham, NH you’ll find beautiful Langdon Brook. I love to walk my dogs along the dirt logging road that runs alongside the brook and stop at the waterfall for a dip. The road runs alongside the brook for several miles and it’s a beautiful scenic walk. From Fryeburg, take 113N to the old Stow Corner Store (now defunct). Continue straight ahead (no longer on 113N) at the Stow Store, and you will be back in Chatham, NH. Continue on past the Chatham Town Hall, onto Toad Hill Road until you see the brook. Park and begin your walk along the Langdon Brook and in a short distance you’ll come to a beautiful waterfall.
